Master of Science in Aerospace Engineering

Admission Requirements

The applicant must meet the School of Graduate Studies' current minimum general admission requirements as published in the graduate catalog.

  1. BS degree in Mechanical Engineering, or Aerospace Engineering, or related field from an accredited program.
  2. Overall undergraduate GPA of 2.75 or a GPA of at least 3.0 for the junior and senior years of their undergraduate programs.
  3. Satisfy the School of Graduate Studies' English Language Proficiency requirements as published in the graduate catalog.
  4. Students seeking admission to a combined B.S./Master program must have a GPA of at least 3.0 at the time of admission.
  5. Online/hybrid presence needs to be approved by faculty advisor

Degree Requirements

Students seeking the Master of Science degree at the University of North Dakota must satisfy all general requirements set forth by the School of Graduate Studies as well as particular requirements set forth by the Mechanical Engineering Department.

Thesis Option

  1. 30 semester credits approved by the graduate advisor.
  2. At least 15 of the credits must be AE or ME courses.
  3. At least 15 of the credits must be at or above the 600 level.
  4. A maximum of 6 credits hours required for the degree may be transferred from another institution.
  5. At least 21 credits of coursework.
  6. Exactly 6 of the credits must AE 998 Thesis.
  7. All major department courses (AE & ME) must be at the 500 level or above, and no courses below 400 level may be included in the program.

Non-Thesis Option

  1. 32 semester credits approved by the graduate advisor.
  2. At least 15 of the credits must be AE or ME courses.
  3. At least 15 of the credits must be at or above the 600 level.
  4. A maximum of 6 credits hours required for the degree may be transferred from another institution.
  5. At least 30 credits of coursework.
  6. Exactly 2 of the credits must be AE 997 Independent Study.
  7. All major department courses (AE & ME) must be at the 500 level or above, and no courses below 400 level may be included in the program.
  8. Comprehensive final examination
