It is proposed to change the name of the Recreation and Tourism Studies program to Outdoor Leadership and Environmental Education. This proposed change in program title is driven by changes in the field of recreation towards more specification and orientation towards leadership and education.
Last year, the minor in this program was changed to a minor in Outdoor Leadership and Environmental Education. There is a need for consistency across the program area and a need for greater attention to changes in the field away from tourism studies and more attention on the growing fields of leadership and learning. This will be of great advantage to students in education, environmental studies, biological sciences and resource management. To be consistent with changes in the field and reflective of future student needs these changes will bring needed focus and consistency to the program area.
